What exactly do I need in order to fully experience the next gen of pokemon?

So far I have

>Game

What else? Like is there some other "box" game I need to buy? Or does it come with the game?
And by need I don't mean "will it ruin the game" , I mean I want everything there is.

You basically just need the 3DS and game and more than likely, you'll want the Pokemon Bank/Transporter. Those will allow you to get your Pokemon from BW/BW2 into XY. It starts in December so you have a few months from launch day to scrounge together $5 if you want to have the option of storing them for the year. From December til January it's free though, which leaves plenty of time for you to get your Pokemon sent up though.
