29 new pokemon revealed so far. 9 mega evolutions revealed so far. Doesn't this seem a bit small for a new gen?

The only reasons this happened were that Japan got the games first so everything was spoiled for us by the time it got here. Now, not so much

I feel they have shown us too much already, just the first evo starters and a few more would be enough.
I would rather no knowledge of the game going into it.
Do they really need to reveal all these pokemon, most games never reveal too much, just enough to get you interested but we already have 29, that's a large chunk of a new dex.

Between 100 and 120 is more likely, and I honestly would not be surprised if they WERE counting Mega Evos in there, though that depends on the number of MEs there are.

I have a feeling we'll end up with somewhere between 30-50 mega evolutions, and depending on how many megas we get there'll probably be somewhere between 100-120 new pokemon. They won't count the megas in the dex but they still have to design them.
Also, unrelated (I didn't want to make a new thread), but for my first run should I use:

Technically that means only 28 have been "officially" revealed and 9 Mega Evolutions have been "officially" revealed. Orotto & Kangaskhan are kind of in the same, showcased but not officially revealed state and the Alpaca was more than likely a mistake.

Not Swirlix evo. Missing tongue, which they will definitely keep because of the whole candy thing, and the pink fluffy and SWIRLy fur, which are also essential to its design.

It's Fairy type because fairy floss is what they call cotton candy in Europe/Australia. It's an important element.

And Gen 5 had near 50 pokemon revealed, if I remember correctly. About a third.

Following this pattern that 30-33% of all new pokemon get revealed prior to release, we'll get fewer than 90 new pokemon. However, we will surely get more new pokemon next week, so it's hard to predict anything at all. With the conclusion of mega evolution, this might still be a small new patch.

The developers favor Charizard because it continues to be super-popular among nostalgic genwunners.

MegaVenusaur is not a lazy design. Mega Pokemon are NOT new Pokemon, they are supposed to still look basically the same as their original forms but with new bells and whistles.
