So I've heard a few claims that the X/Y overworld won't utilize 3D. Is this confirmed or what? Source? It'd be a shame if it was true.

It's true. Serebii posted it on his forum and there was a link posted to the moon runes on the Japanese website that says it. I'm too lazy to dig it up in the archive. Also, the demos didn't have 3D enabled in the overworld (just go on youtube if you want to check for yourself), so there's that.

People bitch that its not there, but most of the time people claim to not like the 3D feature and just see it as a gimmick that takes up battery life.

No, when a part of a 3DS game isn't 3D compatible the green light that says "3D" go off. Watch a demo with a normal sized first edition 3DS and you'll see the light only turn on during battles.

Huh? What green light? Is this an LED on the device itself? I've never noticed anything like that, and the only "green light" I know of is for Streetpass notifications.

The original 3DS has an obnoxious green LED that says 3D whenever it is on.

As far as finding the wordind, it's on the japanese site. Unfortuanately most of the text on the site is an image so it won't translate with a translator.

On a normal 3DS, I don't know about XL, on the top par, right above the slider, there's "3D" written, and there's a green LED under it.

Ah, OK. I have a lot of trouble believing that Nintendo's bank-breaking franchise won't utilize the primary gimmick of their device. Doesn't seem like there would be any reasons the hardware couldn't handle it, though maybe it's hard to make 3D look good with Pokemon's top-down angle.

The 3DS is just a PSP with better lighting and shaders tech wise. The 3D effect on top of that just holds games back even further.

Apparently the game already had framerate drops in the overworld in the demo, and battles could drop to near 10fps with 3D on during some moves. They probably don't want the game to become nigh unplayably slow.
