He loved fighting, which is what Infernape is described as doing in its Pokedex entries. He also wore a crown, which is what Infernape has on his head. Wukong also generally wore red and gold which is reflect in Infernape's design. Finally, the beginning of Infernape's japanese name, "Gouka" sounds similar to Wukong's Japanese name, "Goku."
Also the Infernape = Sun Wukong connection was theorized long before Bulbapedia became popular. Of course, you would know this if you weren't a newfag.
