nah the excitement of seeing them is a rush unto itself. playing with them in game will have lots of exciting aspects as well. imo separating those experiences is probably the way to get the most fun and excitement out of a new gen.

Nope. When the first generation was new I got a wall chart of the first 150 Pokémon (it didn't have Mew) before I saw the show or got Pokémon Red. Each generation I've seen the Pokémon ahead of time and each generation I've still been surprised about what Pokémon I grow attached to.
