>>13739262Canonically, Gen 1 and Gen 2 have been replaced by their remakes. Any events added/redone in FRLG and HGSS is now what occurs, with Sevii Islands, Battle Frontier, HGSS Kanto, to name a few.
Originally, the Dark and Steel types were unknown, newly discovered types in Gen 2. In FRLG this is not the case, and Dark and Steel have always been known types. With Hoenn occurring at the same time as Kanto, with their endemic Steel and Dark types, it was only proper to retcon the existence of the two types. Similarly, the respective Sinnoh evolutions, Mamoswine and Lickilicky to name two, are now officially part of the Johto dex and have "always been known" to accommodate for the fact that Sinnoh occurs at the same time as Johto.
This does bring up the question of how they'll handle a possible Hoenn remake. With the new fairy type, and the sort of obvious fact that XY occurs years after BW2, how will they handle the retconned Fairy types in Hoenn? Is Kalos going to acknowledge it as a new type like Gen 2 did with Dark and Steel? But keeping that continuity means now Fairy types in Hoenn.
