Then, the game developers had been trying in to influence the show, by making their characters teens instead of kids. BUT, The White2/Black2 trailer caused ALOT of outcry for a mature anime, causing them to fund Origins for the older fans.
However, he anime creators now actually have competition. Battlefield wouldn't innovate if it didn't have CoD putting pressure on it. Now the anime has to do the same, if it wants to maintain the stronger audience. Kids AND adults will watch an anime about Red and his Charizard. Ash's never-evolving-team will be cancelled if they don't put effort into the anime again.
So, they've aged Ash up, slightly older than Red in Origins, gave him a teen sidekick, and if my theory is right, will actually write the series with maturity this time. Every battle will be Sinnoh-League-Tier, just to compete with Origins.
