Chespin is all but confirmed to be Grass/Dark. And that's kind of a crappy type defensively. So to make up for that, Game Freak is making it bulky to give it high defenses and HP. Hopefully it will get taller though. That's part of my issue with it, it doesn't even get bigger, it gets fatter.

Grass/Anything is shit tier as a defensive type. When you have a bad defensive typing, being a bulky mon is the worst thing that can happen. Yes, I would prefer that it have lower defenses so that its BST could be invested in Speed and Attack.

The same basic mechanics apply in-game as in comp. Lots of weaknesses and a bulky base stat spread make for a less useful mon both in comp and in-game. I'll agree that Grass/Dark is just an awful type in general, but I also am aware that being able to hit some things hard with its STABs before getting hit is why Shiftry is even possible to be used in the likes of Uber-tier against teams with Kyogre or Psychic types, which just isn't possible with Cacturne due to its speed. The simple truth is that, if you have to be Grass/Dark, fast and frail is the only way.

But let's be honest. It will be defensive. I could see it having decent attack, but it will be slow.

However if it could take a hit the speed would not matter as much.
