Getting rid of Steel's overwhelmingly good resistances was exactly what it needed.
You can have a defensive type, but giving something immune to Toxic the ability to shrug off almost every type in the game is fucking retarded.
What they did was balance the typing so it's still strong, but not ridiculously so.
Poison is still shit of course, but that's Gamefreak for you.
