Exactly aside from Scizor, Heracross, >>13751573, and a couple others, they are all trash pokemon. At least Poison doesn't have a Rock weakness. And grass at least has good support moves and a water resist.

GameFreak just shits all over Bugs at every turn.

Bugs fill the same role in game as they hold in real life; they are common, normally harmless creatures. The fact that most of them are low level, low power creatures reflects the role that they hold irl.

Bugs are pve pokes, you use them early cause they evolve fast, then gets outclassed midgame but you now have enough choice to get a decent team.
Same with dragons being late game. You are more or less expected to use them + legendaries after a while. It's typical jap RPG rule of "replace gear until getting the ultimate one"

Scizor is the only other major one, and a few other bugs still have niche value such as Ninjask or Shedninja
