My plan was always X, but at first I wanted Fennekin. As things stacked up, Froakie became to look like a better option. The Kanto starters+Torchic turned the favor, and the evolutions seen today sealed the deal.

Does anyone here think your first starter choice EVER, decides your future starter choices?

in Blue I chose Squirtle, Silver I chose Totodile, Sapphire I chose Mudkip, FireRed AND LeafGreen I chose Squirtle (Idk why I did both times), Pearl I chose Piplup, White and White 2 I chose Oshawott. In X I will be choosing Froakie...

I chose Cyndaquill in Silver, and I stuck to Fire ever since.

I too started with Cyndaquil, and I have picked Fire every time since. In the most recent ones though I do a run using all of the starters to get a non-biased opinion on them.

I played Red before Ruby/Sapphire though, can't remember what I picked. Pretty sure it was Charmander.

I was rereading my post and I just noticed that EVERY game I played, with the exception of Firered and Leafgreen and white and white 2, we're water oriented. Blue = Blastoise, Silver = Lugia, Sapphire = Kyogre, Pearl = Palkia

Bulbasaur was my first, and after that I went water every following gen.

My first choice was Fennekin, but Chespin grew on me, because this year I decided to play and actually finish Platinum and chose Turtwig, so I have a newfound respect for the grass-type, I guess (not that I don't use grass-types, I just almost never pick them for a starter)...

But that fucking evolution, man. I have a sliver of hope that the third stage will redeem it, but it's a very tiny sliver. I'll be going with Fennekin otherwise.
