I can understand the nerd game designers being like "Yeah, psychic is super strong against fighting because we were picked on as kids" and it being weak against flying because they're bulky masses and kinda slow so they can't deal with being pelted from different angles from above... but fairy?

Fighting is SE against Dark because real trained fighters can see through the dirty fighting techniques of Dark types, they don't fall for Sucker Punches, Feints and other tricky shit. Remember Dark isn't always EVIL, the other half of the time its delinquent type.

Psychic is strong against fighting because of the notion, "Mind of matter", "Brains of Braun", etc. Similarly, Psychic is weak against Bug, Ghost, and Dark because those are all common fears, and Psychic Pokemon are Pokemon of the mind. It has nothing to do with nerd game developers.
