To be perfectly fair, BW was like, amazing at the beginning.

Switching things up with no Brock, Ash actually catching Pokemon, no filler episodes, Oshawott being a little stalker and emotive as fuck, Iris being cute, Cilan being fabulous (though this was especially so in the Japanese ver.) and Team Rocket being serious. It looked like they had really decided to change things especially with the Team Rocket vs. Plasma.

But then the tsunami happened and it just wasn't the same. Or more like it went back to the same old stuff

The Team Rocket shift was not nearly as good as people make it out to be. First of all, any time you make a drastic change to a character's personality--in this case, a complete personality transplant--you're doing something wrong.
