I’m not sure why Chespinfags receive such a hard time for actually liking his bulkier design or get the denial train when they think that he’ll lose the bulk and get an even better design.

Another thing I was thinking about was how people can’t see the Grass to Grass/Dark jump with Chespin, or Water to Water/Fighting jump with Froakie. We’ve had plenty of crazy jumps in terms of evolution among Pokemon, both relating to design and dual typing alike. There are plenty of Pokemon that had they been released for this generation, none of you would’ve been able to guess their final evolution.

Sure, you probably would’ve guessed that Charmeleon grows a pair of wings, but how many of you would’ve seen Charizard and thought he wasn’t a Fire/Dragon?

Yeah, Magikarp makes the leap to Gyarados but would any of you have guessed that he’s Water/Flying without being told?

Pokemon pick up random secondary types, from Nidoking’s Poison/Ground to losing a secondary type, like Gloom to Bellosom. Even Inkay from this generation gains the secondary Dark type, despite its adorable and happy demeanor. That’s the thing about Pokemon and evolution. It’s not all about consistency, or muh patterns, or “it just gets bigger”.
