You don't get it. Having a single starter in your team generally makes that playthrough easy mode because of how much better starters are than other pokemon of the same level. If you have 2 starters at once, you're looking at hyper easy mode.

because you can't do that after you've finished the game?

I care because it's sad seeing people not take full advantage of a brand new experience. how is using a starter that we've all used 100 times more fun than discovering new pokemon and building a team? I expect that kind of trash from casual nostalgiafags not from /vp/

I have no plans to use the Kanto starter or the Torchic. It's a new generation, and I'm going with an all Gen 6 team. Unless it turns out that the regional dex is like Gen Diamond/Pearl's, and there almost nothing native to that region that's useable after the first route.

I went into gen 4 and 5 hating all the new Pokemon but they grew on me.
6 actually has quite a few I like already.
Amarusu, Dedenne, Fennekin, Flabébé, Helioptile, Honedge, Inkay, Nyaonikusu, Pyroar, Sylveon, Torimian, Vivillon, Xerneas

what, after you've already seen all the new pokemon and the surprise factor has worn off? don't you see what you're ruining here?

mega evolutions are new but you'd still be going through a majority of the story with the same old pokemon. we might not even get the mega stone until after the game or something.

I'm countering the easy-modo of three starters by doing a monotype fire run. I get the difficulty of a monotype challenge, the nostalgia of using the old starters and the novelty of the new pokemon.

Also, this is probably the only real chance to do an early-game mono-fire run. Fennekin, Charmander, Torchic, Fletchling and Litleo, all within the first few hours of play.
