Frogadier comes from either grenadier or brigadier most likely. One of its foreign names is close to "captain" too. I just don't see it being a ninja, but rather an army general maybe?

Why do people keep forcing this type trio? Steel isn't even effective against Fire/Fairy so it wouldn't be a reverse triangle. And it's annoying how people keep ignoring the incredibly accurate leak. It's going to be Grass/Dark Fire/Psychic Water/Fighting.

I actually would mind those types at all. Fire/Psychic and Fire/Fairy both sound nigh equally great; I somewhat prefer psychic but still. And frankly Grass/Steel makes a lot more sense than Grass/Dark, it would be a great improvement; especially considering that Steel is my fav type, Chespin would then be my definite #2 choice as I desire him to be.

Fairiea have been added to the games and Knights/Witches are known for their roles in Medieval/German Fairy Tales. Maybe that's the theme? Are ninjas in asian fairy tales or is there something similar that would work?

After learning that Haribo (or whatever it is in japanese) is called Quilladin in English I regained some hope and respect I once had for Chespin. It'll be interesting to see what happens to it.

now don't get me wrong, the leaks seem credible enough. They really do. but I just can't see it.
I can't see how Quilladin will evolve into something dark type. I just can't.

I'm not too sure about froakie. I think Water/flying would be kinda cool because of the bubbles resembling clouds, but a water frog infernape would be rad as hell too.

And sure Fennekin learns psychic moves, but gamefreak has fooled us in the past. I wouldn't put it past them to ruse us yet again.

Gligar is a ground/flying type, yet the only ground attack it could normally learn was Sand-Attack in Gen II.
In the same gen, it could learn one Flying-type move by breeding, and one other Ground-type move by an event.

So yeah, move typing doesn't mean shit.

I don't recall any starter having a bunch of moves being a red herring for its type.

Every type has moves that are widely distributed and moves that are rarely found outside its type. For instance, a lot of non-Ground types learn Mud Slap and Mud Shot by levelup, but only Ground-types have Earthquake in their levelup movesets (with the exception of Tyranitar, which has ground-type prior evolutions).

The reason I'm harping on Psyshock is because it's only found in Psychic levelup pools. Noctowl's psychic moves are also found in other non-psychic levelup pools.

We've seen it with the following moves:

Magical Chant
Confusion
Psychock
Psycho Cut

Magical Chant is found largely on Psychic types, and the glut of psychic moves this thing has does not suggest Fire/Fairy. At all.

And if you're 100% true, why would GF give us so obvious hints about a Psychic type for Fennekin and nothing for the other two?

Not that I don't believe it could be Psychic, but I'm still not buying it just because of that.

Again, it all comes back to the distribution of the moves seen in levelup movesets. Rollout and Mud Shot have wide non-Rock and non-Ground distribution, Bounce has a wide non-Flying distribution. Thus, these moves have a poor correlation with type. Psychic and Psyshock, on the other hand, are highly correlated with Psychic-types.

As far as not releasing information on the other starter's types, I'd wager it's a marketing move to generate some buzz. Hell, we're spending all this time talking about it, right?

You know what? You changed my mind, I think it's pretty much confirmed Psychic now. But if it really is Psychic, that leaves ONLY Dark for Chespin and Fighting for Froakie, which makes the leak correct, but wouldn't Chespin being immune to Psychic being a little unfair with the starters? GF is pretty silly, but they're really careful to make the starters really fair (aside from SpeedBoost Blaziken).
