We're at 49 New Pokemon so far (with 12 of those being Mega Evolutions). That means 37 Pokemon have been shown so far (if you count Mega Evolutions as forms), giving us a lot of room still for a lot more.

Looking back at previous regions and their total new Pokemon:
Kanto: 151
Johto: 100
Hoenn: 135
Sinnoh: 107
Unova: 156
Kalos: ???

How many do you think there will be in the end?

Jeez though, looking at this makes me realize how little we've actually seen.

I used to spend every day between the Japanese and English releases on Serebii thinking up a team. Now I'm going to have to do that on release day with a strategy guide.

I really hope there's a major leak at least a week before the game is released.

the average number of new pokemon per generation is ~130, so I'd guess around 780 total pokemon after gen VI

Anyone expecting a MASSIVE or even LARGE generation after Unova's monstrous 156 pokemon number is going to be sorely disappointed.

A third. If this is the case with gen 6, we'll see 111 new pokemon.

I hope we see a lot more mega evolutions than 36. Half will be starter mega evolutions. That only leaves another 18 of the other pokemon to get a mega forme.

In total, we then get 147 new designs. Pretty good.

Considering that they've shown off fucking 37 Pokemon so far, you'd think there'd be more than just 100~110 in total.

My guess is around 130~160.

It's probably going to be around 120ish. With both gen 4 and gen 5 they revealed roughly 1/3rd of the dex officially before release.
