Who cares? With chaining, Masuda method, shiny charm and the ability to hack shinies into the game since Gold/Silver it's not even that important.
I have on legit shiney and maybe ten or so fake ones, I really get no extra joy from the legit one than the fake one.

The only times I'll use a shiny is if I really like it's colour scheme: Absol, Ampharos, Charizard, Flygon, Yanmega, Salamence, Scizor etc. other than that, the one time I encountered a wild shiny I was like "Oh... neat, I'll catch that" and then I boxed it forever.
