Explain to me WHY are they giving Mega Evolutions to Pokémon like Blaziken, Mewtwo and Garchomp, which are already very powerful.

Does it all come down to "LEL SO POWIRFUL MONSTER" appeal to young kids?

I don't understand having pseudo-legendary or legendary pokemon have mega evolutions. It seems kind of silly, especially considering how you can't use them competitively.

I can understand powerful pokemon getting mega evolutions because if it's going to be super powerful, maybe it should be pretty powerful to begin with.

Mewtwo was originally intended as the ultimate Pokemon, to overpower everything else. It makes sense for him to get a Mega form.

Blaziken just goes with the rest of the starters at this point, I'd assume. Maybe just the Hoenn and Kanto starters.

Garchomp sounds more like a legit tradeoff since it loses Speed.

We don't know the list of fully evolved Mega Pokemon. The initial reveal showed various types, but, afterwards, they've mostly focused on popular Pokemon, which makes the most sense for marketing. That doesn't say much about the full overall selection though.

Those are the most popular Pokemon out there, so they used those Pokemon to introduce the mechanic to help ease people into the idea. If they only gave it out to random fucks like Shuckle or Carnivine then I doubt people would have been as receptive.

Because most weaker Pokémon would be better off just getting a normal evolution. Mega Evolution is supposed to be like a trump card, not something you use to balance weaker Pokémon.

Exactly this. Pokemon like Mawile do not need megas, they need normal evolutions. Megas are a good way to revisit pokemon that cannot evolve under the normal conventions of the series. Game Freak is just retarded.

Yes, I know Mewtwo is a legendary but I find it odd that it's the only one to get a Mega evo right now. Why? I'd wager that its because even though Mewtwo is supposed to be a "legend"... it's original purpose, to be a clone of Mew, ultimately failed. Mewtwo is similar to Mew, but there's more things that they have in differences than they do in similarities. Mew is closer to Ditto than it is the Mewtwo.

As such, Mewtwo has the potential to become "perfect", and you can tell from the Mega Evos it has a more sleek design. Mewtwo is kind of chunky/boney looking..like if you touched him, his body would feel like a rock. Mega Mewtwo X and Y are much more organic looking.

I don't think we'll see any other legendaries with Mega Evolutions (except perhaps Xernas and Yveltal or whatever the third legendary is) but forcibly changed due to Team Flare's shenanigans only.

Other than that, we'll probably just see regular strong Pokemon becoming "perfect".

There's nothing to back this up. Sylveon outright contradicts this statement and 4th gen hid loads of cross-gen evolutions until release.

In Kangaskhan's case it makes sense though, simply because it would be weird for it to evolve normally what with the kid and all. At least in my opinion. Mawile getting a Mega instead of a regular evolution is just stupid though.

I wouldn't put it past Gamefreak to make all of the Megas have a loss in speed or defense..so they all become glass canons. That'd sort of balance them out, although it'd be hilarious if they didn't and then the metagame gets fucked completely.

I kind of hope that was the plan; to make the metagame more accessible. So they're gonna give mega evos to a lot of pokemon that are in higher tiers on the metagame so people can't use them any more without bitching.

There's not that many, really, and most of them are bugs so what'd you expect? Though I guess that depends on your definition of "weaker". Still, it wouldn't surprise me if many of the weaker third stages do get mega evolutions too, and they're just revealing the "cooler", more popular ones first for hype.

I think that they are going to make all the Megas really overpowered. They won't give us megas to "balance", instead they would just give us normal evolutions.

Mega Kangaskhan can attack twice (we still need to get more specific info on this) and Mega Mawile potencially has more attack stat than anything of the previous gen thanks to it's ability. It's typing is really cool as well.

If they can't make an overpowered Pokemon, they will give it an evo. And I still firmly believe that 'mons like Sableye or Dunsparce will get a normal evolution
