When you want to sort files by date, in the English system you get all the files that were made on the 1st of a month, then all of those made on the 2nd and so forth. Incredibly impractical.
The Asian system of YY/MM/DD is the best for sorting files chronologically, but isn't that useful in everyday use as it puts emphasis on the year and sidelines the date, when people usually want to know the reverse, people don't look up the date to find out what year it is.
The american system is the perfect compromise between these two systems.
