Why is it that there never was a Dark-type gym, anyway? I've seen it thrown around a lot but I never actually reached a conclusion as to why it isn't a thing

At least Gen 5 gave me that Ground gym actually filled with Ground Pokemon I wanted and not one filled with Arboks, Tauros and Machokes
