I hate to get all Unovafag, but as far as the new pokemon to bros ratio goes, Gen V had way more than any before it.

Same. Gen IV was so fucking awful I gave up on the franchise and skipped Gen V at first. When I finally tried Gen V I couldn't believe what I'd been missing, it was amazing and I should've played it sooner.

For me it was reuniclous and drudigon. Those two were my bros. Drudigon was my bat with a nail in it and jellybro was a special attack beast who had hidden power bug, a great nature, and it turned out he had excellant IVs.

I liked how they intentionally made the starters unlikable and barely usable so as to encourage players to deposit them and start making actual choices for themselves instead of a cookie-cutter playthrough. That was good design.

Despite not fully agreeing, I have to admit my most recent playthrough of Diamond felt oddly refreshing when I decided to ditch Piplup and go entirely with Pokemon I caught myself.

Unova seems to be the generation of bros. The Pokemon are usually bro tier or forgettable tier with no in between. That's why a lot of people hate it because there aren't many "just solid" designs
