Ecologically, Pokemon could never exist. It's a fact that is making it increasingly difficult to hold my suspension of disbelief. I can accept ghosts, dragons, and everything that is fantastical about Pokemon, but it's the systematic inconsistencies like this that erode the "magic":
1. Trophic levels fucked up beyond belief. Every trainer has Charizard. Or Dragonite. Tiny routes filled exclusively with Pokemon like Onix or Rhydon.
2. Biomass is fucked too: example, a complete lack of (actually) small Pokemon. Even the bugs are HUGE.
3. Pokemon evolve with clothes
4, Pokemon evolve with objects/weapons
5. The classification of each "stage" of Pokemon as individual species.
6. The term "evolution" applied to growth/metamorphosis.
7. All male and all female species.
8. If two unrelated species reproduce, they don't create hybrid species.
9. Overpopulation beyond any measure
10. Impossible reproductive cycles and consequences: shiny farming that results in boxes of Larvitars, produced by the same two Tyranitars. How are they nourished? Are we really forced to assume they're "fed" in the PC system? ALL of them? Forever?
11. Pokemon consistently 'faint,' yet do not suffer any kind of brain damage (I guess Pokecenters can cure them hurr durr)
12. Unrealistic lack of diversity/niche development. Only two types of bugs in Viridian forest?
13. Pokeballs, the magic that defies the laws of thermodynamics
14. Ecological stagnation. Nothing can go extinct, or even shows signs of endangerment. If Pokemon were real, do you honestly believe Dragonites would haven't been driven to extinction? (inb4 farfetch'd)
15. Biogeography. Species are plopped down anywhere. All the starters come from "a faraway land."
etc.
/vp/ I want to enjoy Pokemon again. I really do. But I can't just assume that Pokemon planet isn't affected by the same laws as Earth. And before you tell me this is a game for kids I'm realizing that;_;
