It'd need a huge fucking boost even by mega standards to be worth using.

The only thing that already makes it remotely useful is the light ball, which it would no longer be able to hold.

What kind of ability is going to compensate for that, save for shit like wonder guard?

That's why they will make it the mega evolution item. Obviously it will apply to the Mega Pikachu as well.

That could work if the mega form bumped his speed and the ability was good enough.

I kinda doubt they'll give pikachu a mega form because he's too iconic. They want everyone to recognize his one distinct appearance.
