I might normally agree with this sentiment except that X&Y is purposely encouraging you to re-use old favorites, hence why a bunch of popular old Pokémon are getting mega evolutions, and why you can get R&Bs starters early on. It's a huge nostalgia trip.

For me personally I'll use maybe one or two older Pokemon, but otherwise I want to see what the new region has to offer. To me that's always been the point, like I said. But yeah, mega evolutions are enticing, and will definitely motivate me to re-explore older Pokemon in the endgame.
