Okay, overly spiky and sharp looking to appeal to young boys.

This is a CLEAR design choice because Gen VI is a big push to get a new generation of kids into Pokemon. It is crystal clear that the T-Rex is for boys and the Amaurus is for girls.

I don't really what the problem is with Tyrantrum having an aggressive look with its based off of a creature that was extremely aggressive. Especially since its supposed to be a physical attacker, naturally they'd want to put an emphasis on its fangs and give his design a "sharp" look.

Spikes in nature are on animals that need defense from predators.

If he is meant to be the king t-rex, he should be pretty unprotected looking because he is top dog and he doesn't need that shit anymore.

It would of been better if Tyrunt was spiky, and Tyrantrum was much smoother and regal looking.

Incorrect.

Look at the "Spikes" of King Dino.

The gold/yellow is a crown design, so it's a crest like structure, showing dominance.

The others are fur-like, showing another crest or plumage like design.

This fucker doesn't have spikes to protect himself.

He has spikes to show how fucking big and boss he is.

Sarcasm aside, scales actually don't have place on most dinosaur. They had something more akin to rough, pebbled skin (think chicken skin after stripping off all the feathers, but thick and tough).
