So we can revisit old Pokemon.
Also, think of megas as a buff. Perhaps they'll add megas to guys who were very underperforming in X/Y? So far it looks like they've given megas to either very popular Pokemon (Garchomp, Lucario, Kanto starters) or objectively "meh" Pokemon (Ampharos, Mawile, Kanto starters)

Considering all the Mega-Pokemon revealed were all some of the most popular of their Generation, this kind of makes sense.

Come X/Y2 and/or Gen 7, we'll probably see the favorites of this Gen with Mega forms. I kind of like the idea anyway, the newbies need to earn their spot first.
