What is it with this long running obsession/fascination with physically and mentally abusing or mistreating Pokemon?

What's wrong with people?

Hopefully seeing direct positive feedback from Pokemon thanks to the new "petting and playing" mode in the new Pokemon games actually encourages pople not to be so deeply insane.

Seriously, how do you approach somthing like pokemon and take away the idea of luxuriating over abusing and mistreating these innocent creatures?
