Imagine if the frill lifts and folds when in and out of combat for intimidation. Tyrannosaurs didn't have frills, but it makes it a bit cooler to think about.

Yeah, I was pretty sure that was the case.

It wouldn't really serve a purpose for a T-rex though. It's not like there are many things that would avidly hunt a Tyrannosaur, so it didn't need it as a scare tactic like frilled lizards or cobras, and a frill is useless for prey.

A frill *might* have served a purpose in alluring a mate, but that's questionable at best for a large carnivore like that.
