In the Japanese gen 5 games, you can choose between kana and kanji. It's probably the same here, so there's no point in furigana, little kids who can't read kanji will just choose the kana option

It's also HELL for a non-native reader: I would know instantly what 元始の力 is, but げんしのちから is a pain (it could be atom power for all I know)

It's only cumbersome if you already know kanji.
Since young 'uns start out with all hiragana, it makes no difference to them, and considering the ages GF is mainly catering to, there's no way they won't have an all hiragana version, which makes a furigana option superfluous.

Getting to choose the language irrespective of where you purchased the game, or why you can't change it mid-game?

Why do you need to be able to switch languages randomly?

That's not how it works...

Someone would have to spend time coding that into a game, and you have yet to even attempt an explanation as to why they should.

I can think of a good reason why they shouldn't:
Children will get confused.
Someone's little brother accidentally changes their language to korean, and they don't know how to change it back, so they start over.

It just isn't a necessary thing to add to a pokemon game.

What stops "select at title screen to enter language menu" (which Nintendo has used in the past) then?

I lived in Japan until the age of 7, and I like to use my name in Japanese characters out of tradition, but I know English a lot better than Japanese. Why shouldn't I be able to? Since those characters will most likely not be able under any other language.

Hiragana for native Japanese words
Katakana for foreign words
Kanji is borrowed from Chinese, each symbol is a whole word
Romaji is Japanese written in English

A. We don't know whether or not you can use 'foreign' characters in your name, so maybe you can.

B. That doesn't really have anything to do with changing the language in the middle of the game to a different one, at all.

Not him, but there isn't a need for something to be necessary to include it. It isn't necessary to have a cellphone, but pretty much everyone still has one.

Besides, he might want to be able to change it on the fly to practice whatever language he's learning. Believe or not, reading shit is a good way to help when you're learning a language.

P4A allowed you to switch English and Japanese text too, and it was in pretty much the same situation as XY, minus worldwide release(although US and JPN release was only like a week or 2 apart).
