This doesn't mean that children will believe pokemon are real, because they often have a good grasp of the difference between reality and fantasy, but the normal aspects, such as how people treat each other, will influence them.
Let's say you are a child, let's go with a young girl. You enjoy pokemon, disney + pixar movies, watch phineas + ferb and other stuff geared towards children. Your friends have all started talking about having crushes, but instead of liking Jimmy down the road or Aladdin, you'd rather play games where you rescue Princess Jasmine. But every single thing you like, everything you've watched and enjoyed has only shown girls and boys in relationships. You wonder if there's something wrong with you, if you're weird and if you should even tell anyone. So you just smile whenever your friends talk about liking boys, and pretend you're like them. You grow up thinking there's something essentially wrong with you, and this doesn't really change when you start watching more adult things and all you see is stereotypes of gay people.
Gay people exist. And it's really not healthy for children, gay or straight, to see no examples of gay people in the media they watch because if there are no examples then gay children may grow up viewing themselves as abnormal and straight children will be more susceptible to be influenced by prejudiced views.
