>>13898055Gen 2 had a fucking awesome plot, especially since it was tied directly to the game before it which was BW2's Achilles' heel). The best part about it was that most of it was never in your face; it always hovered above your head. Throughout your trip through Johto, you follow in the footsteps of Red, earning badges, climbing through the ranks and thwarting the plans of Team Rocket, who are trying to make a comeback. All along, you hear little murmurs and nods to Red throughout your journey, about this heroic trainer who brought an entire organization to it's knees. Of course, this all leads to an awesome climax in which you take down Team Rocket and challenge Red yourself.
This all works wonderfully because while you're mirroring (and eventually confronting) the protagonist of the first title, Johto is an entirely new region with new Pokemon, locales and enemies to face. It excels as a spiritual successor to RBY in more ways than one. And that's the issue with BW2: it's a sequel that doesn't have a name for itself. It isn't the story of a hero carving his own path and in doing so living up to the legendary names of those before him. It's the story of a guy (or lass) that cleans up what's left the first protagonist's mess. Same region, no new critters to catch and an extension to a plot that could have been wrapped up with a nice little 3rd version package like always.
