Everything after the end of early Johto is the same derivative shit they've been doing for years; the Original Series is the only one that can even pass for an actual show, and even it was never all that great.

That said, Piplup was far more irritating than Max from what I did see of each series.

I feel like this show is the result of a monkey paw wish. No other video game franchise gets this consistently produced cartoon, and its neat to be involved in it and chat about it with other fans of the games. But on the other hand, it is so terrible and frustrating.

I still don't get this. Why would previous acquaintance significantly increase the chances of a relationship? Between children in a show where relationships are NOT a focal point?

Hoenn was better than Johto. Johto made it clear the Kanto trio didn't work outside Kanto and make Misty the most boring character ever. Hoenn mixed things up a bit and was interesting. Sinnoh tried being a better Hoenn and failed. Unova was refreshing for a while and then they stopped caring.
