So what exactly do people like about this guy? It's design doesn't seem that great...so I went ahead and tried him out in BW2 to see what the big deal was about and this guy is actually pretty mediocre.

Why do so many people like this guy?

Easy to find early route Pokemon back in Gen II. It became a lot of people's "bro".

I don't know, really. It just appeals to me. Had it on my team at least once in every gen and I guess I just got attached to it. It's not really a thing about how good it's stats are or any of that for me.

It's a bulky, slow Electric-type. Not too many of those.

I like it because it's a final 3-stage evo that doesn't try to be edgy. It's content to be cute and happy.

I used him for the first time in BW2 and he probably went the most unused. Shit, he doesn't even learn Thunderbolt. I used a Weezing, and it saw more action than Ampharos.

I find it funny that people give Samurott shit because he evolves into a retarded looking pokemon that looks nothing like its far superior preevolution but nobody gives Ampharos crap for doing to same exact thing because "muh nostalgia, muh bro."

This. I'm an electric type fan so I always tried to get one in each gen and Ampharos was pretty good back then with fire punch being special. For fucks sake, I ran zap cannon iron tail fire punch and dynamic punch on it and I could rek Lance's Dragonites.

Except there's an actual bit of flow in the transition from Mareep to Flaaffy to Ampharos with Ampharos actually bearing some resemblance to Mareep.

That same flow exists from Oshawott to Dewott. Then Samurott's just there.

Not exactly, man. I actually preferred Flaaffy over Ampharos because of its look and its cry. It's the main reason I always capture two, one for Pokedex reasons and the other just because I'm not found of Ampharos.

Mediocrity depends entirely on how you use it, and whether or not it had garbage stats.
