I only pirate games to try them first if there aren't demos, then if I like it I stop playing the pirated copy and buy the goddamn game because people worked for it and trying to sell a game is a lot more difficult and less profitable than you may think.

Going to add two things to this for when I pirate.

1. Old games (GBA / N64 and below). I live in an area where it's nearly impossible to find older games without paying a TON for them.

2. Games that are hard as balls to find. This works with the top reason, too. For example, I have still never seen a cartridge of 999 where I live, and by the time I was really enjoying trying out the pirated version, it was basically over. I even had to have Virtue's Last Reward shipped in specially.

You can still go on all the rides and get the same experience as other people who paid without really taking away from the people who run the park.
The main danger is getting caught while trying to sneak in (or downloading it), but once you're in, there's not much they can do.
If everyone did it, the business wouldn't make any money, so it depends on the vast majority of users paying up get inside.
It's still a shitty thing to do since we're getting an experience that many other people paid for for free, but sometimes we do shitty things.

Honestly I've almost entirely stopped playing videogames except for Pokemon. I have so many games, buy and pirate a ton, yet can never get invested in them. They've stopped interesting me. No it's not. New designs every gen other than the enhanced edition. This gen is looking to be the most innovative of them all. Meanwhile more jumping with mario and puzzles with link. At least Metroid gave us good gameplay when it use to be on handhelds.

Personally I see no issue in playing a copy of something if you at least own it's base game. Have Black but want to play a white ROM? You did your part, feel free. Gamefreak doesn't tr to get people to buy both versions anyway. and if it's gen 3 or prior, pirate away, since it's just about old enough.

Romhacks of Gen 4/5 games are borderline, but the same rules as the first pply to me.

I honestly have issues understanding how, out of all the better games, pokemon is the only thing someone would want to play. There's direct knockoffs with things like Fossil Fighters if you're into the battle and collection. Things like SSB are good for the interaction aspect. Everything is does, other games can do (sometimes better). I don't mean to be rude with this, it's just something I have trouble comprehending.

Trust me, I have no idea why either. I suppose the combination of the two is the thing. Plus actually having Pokemon as a result of gameplay feels a lot more quantifiable than pure gaming skill in, say, a fighting game. Obviously it's kind of pointless since I could just Pokegen them anyway, and I do occasionally. Another thing is that I just really like the general universe and design. I like alot of game's art direction and design, but I'd rather just watch a lot of them than play it myself.

Here's the thing with pirating a Pokemon game: it's for people that just want to dabble. You can't trade, can't battle friends, etc.

Regular fans and hardcores will shell out the money for the game every time. Those who don't need the full experience are okay with just pirating a copy.

I bought the 3ds for Pokemon.
My issue is that I don't like handhelds, I don't like small screens.
I wish there were something like the Super Game Boy that would let you play game boy games on super nintendo, and obviously use your tv as the screen.

Or that it were possible to buy pokemon through Steam and play it in my pc.
Even if I have to buy an expensive license from Nintendo to be able to install them in my pc.

Perhaps in the near future it will be possible.
