Alright, I'd like to bring something to everyone's attention that I have not seen discussed yet.

There has been a theory on Litleo evolving into a manticore which has been debunked, Spritzee becoming a plague doctor, the starters being a knight/mage/thief trio, but I haven't seen a lot of specific theories for a specific inspiration for Clauncher and Skrelp. So consider the following:

Skrelp's head, to me anyway, looks like it could be a pirate hat. Also, the Pokedex entry says something along the lines of Skrelp trapping prey at sea, and I thought of pirates capturing people as well. So, I present the "Pirate Skrelp" evolution theory.

So where does Clauncher fit in this? Well, many old ships used for war or piracy had cannons on board. So I believe Clauncher will be based off of a cannon. It already uses its claw to launch attacks, so that is not too far of a stretch at all.

Also I think it would be awesome if Clauncher had Skill Link with a new repeating move that is Electric type
