"Light" pokemon can fall just fine under the category of Electric type and the opposite of Dark already exists, it's just so happens that it is weak to Dark, not the other way around.

I'm not going to pretend to know Japanese, but from what I know, the word they use for the Dark type which translates to "Evil" for us has different connotations there than here.
While I agree Fighting has an association with honor, I don't think thats why Fighting > Evil. I'm pretty sure it's simply the fact that a variety of Dark moves are either cheap tricks and uncontrollable outbursts, while Fighting-types are skilled fighters who can easily counter that shit.

Firstly, Dark type isn't some "evil" type as so many seem to think. Fighting type is already it's opposite in that Fighting type is honorable and fair while Dark type is about being sneaky and fighting dirty. And as for a light type Fairy already has that covered.

The japanese concept of evil and the western are entirely different. They don't see it as bad and it's not in opposition to good in the same way. A balance is viewed as ideal. The name Dark is a more accurate translation of the Japanese name than calling it evil over here would be.

They're not opposites. Kakutou doesn't exactly mean "fighting." A closer translation that captures the nuance would be "hand-to-hand, unarmed combat."

Fighting dirty plays on the mind to succeed so Dark beats Psychic.

Well now were getting into the topic of translation versus localization. It's one of those arguments of should you literally translate a Japanese phrase straight that doesn't mean anything to the audience you're translating it for, or should you replace the phrase with a similar western saying that means the same thing so that the intent of the scene is correctly localized for the audience watching it.

Like should you translate the Japanese as literally as possible and end up with "That guy! Even at a time like this!" which doesn't make sense in english

Or should you localize it to something like "Why'd that bastard have to show up now?" Which means the same thing and makes sense.

So basically I guess I should have said Dark is the correct localization since it is more correct to the meaning of the japanese rather than Dark is the correct translation I guess, which is my bad.

OP basically fairy type is light type. Don't expect it to have some grimdark, mischievous, vicious, edgy monsters/creatures from Fairy tales.
We have dragon, poison and dark for that kind of pokemon
Fairy type will be basically a mix of cutesy, fluffy (Swirlix, Dedenne ecc.) and majestic, royal (Gardevoir, Xerneas) with a touch of space shit as seen in that short with Sylveon.

If GF wants to add more types after fairy, they should really look into a way to split the water type. Adding fairy effectively split the normal type, which used to be the most common. Now it's water, which is in my opinion the most boring type... not sure how they could split it though

"Konna toki ni" Literally translates to "Even at a time like this" if you want to do it literally. It doesn't make sense though, its not a good localization.

"Aku" Literally translates to "Evil" as well, but again it's not an accurate localization.

Translations like "Why now!?" and "Dark" for those are just more correct in english to what the original was saying in japanese than the shitty literal translations are. The job is to localize it in a way that makes sense to the English audience and not just leave things in broken English that doesn't actually mean what the Japanese meant.

It's not the English word for evil in either country. In English it is Dark type and in Japanese the word they use is not actually equivalent to the English word for evil either. It is a japanese term for evil that does not mean the same thing as English evil.

I hope the people who are criticizing the name Dark Type aren't the same kind of people who defend lines like "I...I....you!" and "How could you to my father!?" which are perfectly correct literal japanese translations that don't mean jack shit in English because it hasn't been localized.
