You can play Pearl/Diamond if you like having only one non-starter fire type as an option before the Elite 4.

platinum is much much better than D/P
more pokemon (D/P pokedex sucked) and 5+ hours of gameplay. plus giratina is the best legendary is that run.

i played diamond 3 or 4 times and then starting playing my friend platinum a few weeks ago. i was blown away how much better platinum is!
