As much as she tries to push him away, she can't, and will always come through in a pinch for him. In situations where Ash has been in, or seemed to be in, mortal peril, Misty has always had the strongest reactions.
The same occurs with Ash. Misty is nearly always the first one he checks in on or worries about after a situation has happened.
