Is Pokémon really that big with kids these days? I have no idea. Is it bigger than the days where it was a new thing and a fad for most kids?

How many kids do you know who are die-hard Pokémon trainers?

I heard some kids talking about pokemon and beyblades the other day. It was pretty surreal.

It's even bigger now but it's no longer a pop culture thing so it -seems- less popular than it was in the 90's.

I work at a kindergarten and they do seem to like Pokémon. Clearly not as big as during the start, but still, a few of them seem to love it and most other kids atleast know about it.

Different times now, I suppose.

The majority of people I encounter who are fans are the kids who grew up with it in the 90s. I hear more of their excitement than kids nowadays

I've turned my cousin onto Pokemon, and he enjoys it enough. Apparently a few of his classmates play it too, which is nice to hear. It was never that huge where I lived anyway, there were only a select few people who were really into it.

My niece used to play. When HG/SS came out she asked if she could have one, so I gave her SS. Shen B/W came out I got both hoping to give her a copy. She said she didn't want it.

She just turned 14.

Pokemon, like any game franchise, probably had a target demographic. Even the developers were younger. As it grew, they realized so did their audience. They had to appeal to their audience while still keeping their doors open to the younger crowd.

Most games do this by trying to make their character more edgy or something, or have the story lines be a bit more mature. So far I think GameFreak has found a nice in between where the storyline just gets a bit more complex and gameplay can get more creative.
