What pokemon should I go for in the bug catching contest on HG/SS? Scyther/Pinsir aren't cutting it anymore it seems unlike how they did back in Gen 4. I mean...the last contest I did some NPC won with a fucking Caterpie.

There are more factors than species. I usually manage to win by catching the highest level Pokemon I can find without damaging it (Weedle or Caterpie).

You can win really easily by catching a high level, common bug without weakening it.
