I've got a question for all the folks out there with a 3DS; are the wifi connectivity options any better than a DS?
I've been stuck without any GTS access or other net goodies on my Black version since it came out since my DS can never pick up my router no matter what I do.
Curious if 3DS can help with this significantly since I'd like to do some GTS trading before XY

Can't talk much about the difference having only owned pokemon for my 3ds but i remember people talking about this being one of the things that made it worth the upgrade.

I'm not too sure if it actually does make a difference, but it definitely seems to have better connectivity than a DS.

The 3DS does have far better wireless support (namely, WPA), DS games can't make use of this. Nintendo doesn't understand the idea of layering: that is, their games shouldn't be built to expect an exact hook, it should be a more ambiguous setup where the game tells the system "I want internet" and the system responds "here you go". The game shouldn't give a damn about how it's connected, just that it is. The system should handle all of that, so that older games can make use of newer technologies.

But Nintendo didn't do this. No, if you look into the 3DS menus for setting up internet you'll find a "DS" and "3DS" listing; you have to set them both up if you want to play DS online, and they don't cross-talk (the DS screen is even a complete emulation of the DS interface).

DSi enhanced games like the 5th gen ones can use the 3DS' wifi settings.

i say DSi enhanced because BW and BW2 make use of the camera for the xtranceiver

Hurm... Well I need a 3DS at some point anyway. Might as well table this for now, pick one up tomorrow, then see if it all works and hopefully is usable with Bleach: Dark Souls because I finally found some other people that have it.

bw/bw2 can connect to wpa connections on the 3ds unlike the ds so yes. the gen 4 games can't do this and i'm pretty sure 99% of ds games can't either but if you only want to connect online with the 5th gen pokemon games then it works fine

Black and White along with Black 2 and White 2 can connect to WPA connections, but only if you're using a DSi or a newer console since the games are DSi enhaced. If you're using a DS/DS lite you can only connect to WEP connections.

i've never transferred anything from 4th gen games to 5th, so i can't help you there, sorry. but i'm pretty sure you can connect with black 1 on a 3ds just fine too. the best option might just be to temporarily change your wireless security to WEP mode since that's what all DS games support

Well I only have DSslim which was before the DSi I believe; So either way I'll need to change my router from WPA2-PSK(AES) to something different to transfer from Diamond/ Heart Gold I think. Not sure how transferring up like that works; but I'll find out.

Beat Black and White, there is a building on Route 15 called the PokeTransfer Lab. Don't trade in your DS though, because you'll need two systems to make this work.
