Sure, by itself. But when you give businesses an inch, they take a mile, and now you wind up paying like 50% more for the same amount of gaming over a year because half the games get sold to you piecemeal in these little installments.
Yeah, $5 a year isn't much. And next service it will be $10, plus $4.99 for the app itself. And then it will be $0.99 for DLC legendaries. And sooner or later Pokemon will become the same thing MMOs are; pay-to-play microtransaction fests.
Why? Because they know you'll pay whatever they tell you to pay without complaint, and they want more money.
Stand up for yourself as a consumer.
