I never use starters competitively, so I kind of prefer him being Grass/Dark. It creates a more interesting possibility for the final evo.

It is kind of a bummer that Chespin's likely to stop being so jolly, though.

Grass/Dark or Grass/Steel would make more sense, considering Braixen is going to be either a Fire/Psychic or Fire/Fairy. Frogadier is pretty much confirmed on Water/Fire and works either of the above combination types.

If you think Quilladin is going to be a Grass/Fighting you should rethink about your life.

The process basically goes down to what mons the designers like more. They probably put their preferred typings on their favorites and throw away logic. Then they slap on whatever typing on the one that is left to make it make sense. There's a reason Blaziken is ridiculously strong and is a fucking fighting type when it was originally suppose to be a bird.

GF can't just favorite a fucking Pokemon now due to all the changes in fighting and types and make it OP like living hell. It has to have disadvantages.
