How do I get strong pokemon? I've only been a casual fan and don't really know what EV and IV etc.. actually mean. What kind of Pokemon are actually good?(going to emulate black 2) What kind of moves does a pokemon need?

Unless you're going to battle online or you're passionate about the Battle Frontier/Subway it's not really worth the time

IV stands for Individual Values, they're randomised stats given to your Pokemon that can't be changed so some people will breed a lot of Pokemon looking for one that the RNG god smiles upon

EV stands for Effort Values, these are like points that you get when battling that increase your Pokemon's stats. You can fight specific Pokemon to manipulate them into going into the areas you want (so if you want a higher attack you fight Pokemon that give away Attack EVs when defeated).

Basically you just want to make a team that covers each others weaknesses well, not just type wise but making sure you have both defensive Pokemon and Attacking Pokemon and hopefully a Speed stat high enough so that you go first each turn.

Not OP, but what IVs would you settle for when breeding for pokemon to be used in battle subway/against friends, but not necessarily tournament-tier. Like I've been breeding Gligar for a baton pass set, and the best two I've got so far are 14/27/24/28/19/19 and 25/23/15/28/29/27 I think one of the parents has some unnecessary IVs and I'll use some of the offspring for the next generation.

It has crippled me many-a-time in past Pokemon games where I get to gym 6 or so and realize that my team, while having worked great, has some glaring weaknesses such as lacking type coverage or having multiple members weak to the same type that's amazingly enough, one of the E4's specialties.

It's at that point I try and find a replacement or two; grind, and then get bored of that and find something else to do only to pick the game back up months later... and restart from the beginning.

The cycle never ends.
