I mean, most probably it'll end up being Dark as the leaks stated, but so far we don't have any clue on what type it'll be, while the Fennekin line has been seen using a variety of Psychic moves from the first trailers

You aren't getting the concept of "reverse triangle".
Grass/dark means he can potentially kill fennekin depending on bulk or with the use of SP, grass/steel means fennekin only has to sneeze on him and he can't do shit in return.

Grass Dark makes zero logical sense and just makes the whole concept ass.

Torterra is slow and 4x weak to ice beam, infernape is fast and has flare blitz and close combat, shit is not rocket science.

Dark typing means probable sucker punch access, which means priority kill on frail furbait. Steel typing means he's dead on arrival.
The immunity is also appreciated, due to the fact that froakie will likely outspeed anyway, making it hard to beat froakie.

Beyond that, you are underestimating how useful dark/grass is on a tank, since the only pokemon we have with the typing are glass cannons.

Psychic immunity, which is far more useful than poison immunity for anyone other than hazard layers, ground resistance, water resistance, electic resistance, ghost and dark resistances, on top of having stab sucker punch, which if you recall is a base 80 power priority move. Being a defensive grass type means he also probably has access to all dat grass status if people over predict on sucker punch.

Also non-stab ice and poison won't kill a bulky poke, and outside of rain hurricane, flying isn't used much as an offensive type in OU.
Uturn is predictable as fuck, and the jury is still out on whether or not fairy typing will be enough save the relatively frail/weak fairies seen thus far.
Unless we get some better fairies, that really just leaves fire and fighting.

Sucker punch is priority, dumbass, it's best on slow mons. And the whole "becoming setup bait" thing is REALLY GREAT for someone that has access to the best status moves in the game. Grass steal means ONLY STATUS MOVES AND VERY LITTLE ABILITY TO KILL ANYTHING WITOUT STALLING
