In a discussion about musical integrity, trying to establish which pieces qualify as strong, weak, creative, uninspired, and so on as an exercise in futility because ultimately everything just boils down to what we *like* is in my mind a very silly and naive position.
If I spend half an hour detailing the merit of a superb classical piece, and my friend says to me "Eh, I don't really like it. It's just dumb", that to me is very frustrating and painful. Likewise, if I rail on something for being petty and simple and someone says to me "Eh, well I like it..." without explaining what value they see in its musicality, that too is painful for me.
Individuality has nothing to do with trying to draw criteria for more rigorous musical evaluation.
