So, is he a steel-type trainer with a stupid team like Lance with dragons, or is he multitype like Blue and Cynthia?

Same thing for Alder with bug.

I dunno, in his most recent appearance he actually uses more Rock types than Steel types.

And what about Iris? She's obviously a Dragon-type specialist as gym leader, but as champion only three of her six are Dragon. Is she multitype by that point?

She's in the same boat as Lance, where they're more Draconian Pokemon specialists, although Iris's Pokemon resemble more dinosaurs than dragons like Lance. Steven's team is all about rare ores/stones like Steel, Fossils & Runes (Claydol)

We should probably avoid using Lance as an example, considering the Dragonite line were the only Dragon type in both RBY and GSC. I don't know what you expected him to use.

Not sure what to make of Iris' team. Probably Dragon/Dinosaur, like Anon said.

Blue = Multitype
Lance = Dragon with a secondary one in Flying.
Steven = Steel with a secondary one in Rock and partially in Psychic.
Wallace = Water
Cynthia = Multitype
Alder = Kinda a multi-type, but favors Bug Pokemon for the most part.
Iris = Dragon with a couple of other types thrown in.
