The standards weren't the same as they were 2 decades ago. The boomer generation? They got their first good jobs, they got their foot in the door to get experience when experience wasn't as important. Back in their generation, the only experience you needed for most jobs was having eaten a meal before.
Your logic is flawed because it doesn't take into account that people over the age of 25 are job hunting as well, and yes they are taking the jobs that are all requiring experience.
Look at the unemployment rate for college graduates under the age of 25. Last I checked was I think in 2011 when the unemployment was hovering at about 52% for them, not even accounting the large portion of them that did get employed but ended up with jobs that didn't even require a degree.
tl;dr - older generation taking the jobs from youngins who were born at the wrong time
