Yeah I'd say it's a good deal. Having owned both the original and XL models, I can say without a doubt that the XL model is better though.

I have small hands and wanted something more portable, but what would you consider the pros of the xl? Better graphics?

Nah the graphics are the same. I just prefer it because it's more comfortable to me and the display is much larger.

Bigger, that's about it.
In my experience the graphics are actually worse. They just look extra bloated (pixels errywhere), especially if you're playing older titles or regular DS games.

idk if this is like it for all models, but my 3ds xl seems quieter than my 3ds, like its max volume is louder
